BATWOMAN 3.13

 

RECAP - BATWOMAN  3.13:  "Are We Having Fun Yet?" 

We have reached the end of Season 3 of our Caped Crusader, and she's had A LOT to deal with this season:  some of Batman's former foes' toys got loose, only to have NEW people start to play with them...which included having her best friend Mary get infected by Poison Ivy, sending HER on a villain like tirade, only to have the REAL Poison Ivy return, and THEN...finding out that a powerful businesswoman named Jada Jet is her actual biological mother who abandoned her years ago.  And finally...her brother Marquis---whom she THOUGHT she was forming a connection with, only to find out that he was zapped by the Joker years ago, and it turned him into a lunatic.  NOW, he's going to expose her secret ID to all of Gotham.     

With Team Batwoman wondering what Marquis' next move is going to be, we have him reliving his experience those many, many years ago when the Joker took his bus hostage, and zapped him upside his head with the joy buzzer, thus scrambling Marquis' brains enough to take away any empathy and compassion he had.  Meanwhile, he's marveling at the precious treasure trove that Alice provided him with the location of the Batcave beneath Wayne Tower.  

Speaking of Alice, she's trying to scramble her own brains in order to get back to her old Beth self, but Mary manages to catch her from electrocuting herself.  Her hallucinations about Ocean and Mouse and everything else have begun to take her toll, and cause her to have a real breakdown.  Mary arrives to stop her from killing herself, and shows her a pamphlet for a clinic in Geneva that could help her.  But Alice breaks down, crying, saying she can't handle any more cells.  

Back at Ryan's, they plan out how they're going to stop Marquis, and that it should be Ryan that delivers the buzzer to Marquis.  This is her mess, and she needs to fix it.  Mary joins them, and tells them that her sister needs that buzzer.  Ryan and Sophie remind her of what Alice did to her mother, and Mary is well aware.  But she's showing compassion, and says that they weren't going to back down from her having an opinion and input on the team, so they hear her out.  At this time, Marquis sends a massive text to everyone in the city, informing them that they all need to head out into the city, because in 5 hours, he's going to announce Batwoman's secret ID all over town.  Jada shows up, and offers up her resources at Jeturian Industries to help Team Batwoman take down her son.  

Ryan goes to see Alice at Arkham, and she wonders WHY Alice feels she deserves the buzzer, and Alice says she's trying to get her head straight.  But Ryan isn't willing to go with the program, so Alice says that she doesn't deserve it.  And that she knows Marquis' REAL play for Gotham City.  It turns out, that revealing Batwoman's secret ID was NEVER the plan....but to take a bomb and drop it on the city, thus killing all the innocents in the streets.  The team realizes that he now has the Bat Blimp at his disposal, and that's how he's going to transport the bomb and drop it on the city.  Ryan says that they need to find a way to get the people to clear the streets, and that NO ONE dies tonight.  She then goes to see her mother, and appeals to Jada to ensure Marquis is ousted from Wayne Enterprises, and that control is given back to Ryan.  It's time to put the city first.  

So, with that in mind, Jada then admits on television what had happened to Marquis, and with that revelation, the Wayne board votes him out, and gives back control of the compay to Ryan.  Marquis gets wind of this, but doesn't care...he's still got HIS final hand to play....meanwhile, Sophie and Mary make their way into the Batcave in order to find a bat villain weapon to somehow influence the citizens of Gotham to clear the streets.  While Mary is trying to set everything up on her end through the Bat computer, Sophie ends up finding the Penguin's umbrella, which they'll use to hypnotize the people to do their bidding.  

Luke manages to hack into the blimp's computer to try and control it, but Marquis shoots the panel, thus giving him control back.  Batwoman zips up to the blimp to try and stop it herself, and see if she can steer it out to the river.  Sophie is concerned, but this is Batwoman's play.  There is no way to disarm the bomb, and both she and Marquis begin to fight aboard the blimp, and Marquis pushes her out, but she uses her grappling hook to pull him out with her, and they both land on a building.  Luke then shows up aboard the blimp as Batwing, and they try to find a way to get the blimp out of the heart of the city.  It turns out that Luke has to use the A.I. of his father from his helmet to get control of the blimp, and steer it out of harm's way.  The blimp then crashes on the outskirts of the city, saving everyone from harm.  

On the building, Batwoman and Marquis fight some more, and they both topple over the building, but Batwoman holds onto her brother.  Alice then shows up, and pulls the both of them up.  Alice then gives the buzzer to Batwoman, who uses it on Marquis, and he's zapped back.  Alice remembers their convo about the buzzer, and says something about doing the hard work.  Ryan says that if anyone can do the hard work to get back to Beth....it's Alice.  

In the aftermath, Mary checks up on Marquis, and it looks like he'll be fine.  Jada and Ryan look on as he wakes up, happy to see his Mom and sister.  As for Mary, she sees a knife on the desk with a note from Alice saying she's in search of herself...and to catch her on the flip side, with the brochure to the clinic in Geneva.  We then see Alice....white hair gone, as Beth tries to re-emerge and walks off...looking to become the person she used to be.  

The team celebrates their victory, and they discuss what the future may hold.  They know that Batwoman doesn't get a day off, but before they make some changes, and prepare for the continuing war, Ryan replaces the autographed baseball in the glass case that they use to open the secret door to the Batcave with the pearl necklace that was Martha Wayne's.  In the wreckage of the blimp, where there's radioactive wreckage spread about, we see the local TV reporter reporting on what happened.  However, she and the camera crew meet their grisly end, as someone or something slays them all and walks off....leaving us to wonder what new threat awaits Gotham City.  

This was a good way to wrap up the season long storyline that saw us dive more into the life of Ryan Wilder, and give us more perspective on her motivations and reasons WHY she's been a loner, and why she's remained Batwoman.  But finding her biological mother in Jada Jet...who actually survived this whole ordeal---as did her brother---which was a bit of a surprise.  I would've thought that Jada's death would've been MORE motivation for her as Batwoman, drive her further, and even make her just a TAD darker, but that didn't happen.  Now with her family a chance to build on something....and her relationship with Sophie now a real thing...how will these changes effect Ryan's ability to be Gotham City's Dark Knight Detective?  With Luke now past HIS PTSD, he's going to be more out in the field as Batwing, which will give her extra muscle on the streets.  Sophie is now a full member of the Bat Team, and her skills will prove invaluable for the future.  

As for Mary and Alice....that relationship went to complete animosity to kinship.  With Kate gone to find Bruce, it's left a bit of a hole in both Alice and Mary's lives.  Also, with Jacob Kane behind bars, they're the only family each other's had to lean on.  And when Mary's makeshift family---Luke, Ryan, and Sophie---were kind of leaving her in the background of the team, Alice saw the opportunity to cause further dissention.  And when Mary got infected by Poison Ivy, it allowed Alice to drive the needle of dissention in more.  When Mary did kill the father camper in the forest, I'd almost thought it would've broken her....but in her own way, Alice protected her sister.  In the end, we saw the cracks in Alice's veneer, and saw bits of Beth begin to creep through.  What this means for our Wonderland Girl remains to be seen.  It could be that as much as we can possibly get Beth Kane back....Alice will never truly be gone.  

What's the new villain that's now going to be creatiing havoc and terror in Gotham?  We shall see provided the show gets greenlit for a 4th season.  That has yet to be determined.  So, with that in mind---what did YOU all think of Season 3?  What was the high points of our Scarlet Crusader, what were the low points?  Subscribe and leave a comment below.

DC'S LEGENDS OF TOMORROW 7.13

 

RECAP - DC'S LEGENDS OF TOMORROW  7.13:  "Knocked Down, Knocked Up"  

The finale of Season 7 is a welcome one, as we see the team trying to live a post-Legends life, as well as seeing as to how Gideon functions as the new Captain of the Waverider.  However, we have Evil Gideon doing HER thing, as well as Gary still floating out in the time stream somewhere.  And with Gwyn realizing his Alan was a robot, he's going back to 1916 to rescue the real one, and use the robot as a replacement....NOT realizing that Alan's death is a fixed point in the timeline.  So...how does it all shake out, as we close the book on this season?  Let's see... 

With Gary having been kicked off the ship by Evil Gideon, he lands in prehistoric times, where he tries to find a place to use the key to get back to the mansion.  So, he's in desperate need of help.  Meanwhile, the rest of the team begins to meet for their weekly hang out since their disbanding.  They also see that Gwyn's time machine is gone, and he's left a note for the team explaining where he went.  It appears that Gwyn has gone back to 1916 France...the site of where Alun had died, to replace the real deal with the robot version that Gideon had made for him, and save the real Alun.  Gideon, at this time, with her evil A.I. counterpart, stops some time travelers from changing the Constitution of the United States.  Though the time travelers mean well, all Gideon can do is issue a warning.  But, she's finding the job boring.  

After a few weeks of meeting at the mansion, it seems as if the idea has lost it's luster.  Ava and Sara---the first to arrive as usual, want to tell the team about them wanting to make a baby, but that gets put under wraps as Gary finally makes it to the mansion, and explains to them that Evil Gideon threw him off the ship, and that Gwyn's Alun was replaced with a robot.  He also says that Alun's death is a fixed point in time, and if they try to change it, they'll die.  But the team is determined to save Gwyn, because he IS a Legend.  Meanwhile, back in 1916, Gwyn is about to drug Alun to replace him, when he himself is shot and killed...and it appears the Fixer of that fixed point got to Gwyn.  As the team travels back to 1916 to save Gwyn using a time watch Zari had, Gary informs Sara that she's pregnant.  She says she can't be, but Gary says she is, because of her alien physiology, and all she had to do is kiss Ava to get impregnated.  Sara is stressing out and can't deal with the news at this time. Back on the Waverider, Gideon has stopped yet another set of time travelers looking to change history once again, but this time, she blew up their ship to stop them from trying again. 

In 1916, as they map out a plan to save Gwyn, Gideon shows up and says they should've been content with what she was able to give them.  They argue, and Astra feels that this Gideon isn't who she remembers anymore and storms off.  Spooner tries to appeal to Astra, and says that the A.I. must be getting to her, and there's still some of the old Gideon left.  So, Astra and Spooner go to salvage Gideon, while the rest of the team tries to save Gwyn.  Once they get to Gwyn, they tell him that Alun's death is a fixed point, and that if they try to save him, they'll all die.  But they're going to try anyway, but while Nate has his Steel powers, Sara is no longer invulnerable as the baby has taken her powers to protect itself.  Sara at this juncture is full blown freaking out. 

Astra and Spooner make it aboard the Waverider, and they're looking for Gideon, who is convinced by her evil A.I. that if she gets rid of her emotions, she'll function better.  Gideon feels it's best, but the ladies manage to save her before she makes that mistake.  Evil Gideon has made a new robot body for her counterpart, and that would eliminate any emotional attachment to the Legends.  They realize now that they have to stop A.I. Gideon from destroying the Legends, and that means disconnecting her.  But Evil Gideon takes over the robot body she created, and attacks the trio.  

As the team below in 1916 France look to help Gwyn, everything gets frozen, as The Fixer arrives....looking to play a round of golf.  He starts whacking his blue and yellow star balls around the battlefield before it begins, he comes across the Legends, who wrote notes on their hands that they wanted to talk to him.  He unfreezes them, and says his name is Mike.  They explain to him about the concept of a time paradox, and could use his help.  Back board the Waverider, the ladies can't seem to solve Evil Gideon until the real Gideon blasts the control panel, thus decloaking the Waverider in the timeline, thus creating the ship as an anomaly.  In order to fix it, Evil Gideon must get rid of it, by blowing up the ship.  The ship explodes, and Evil Gideon goes with it.  However, Astra uses her powers to shield her, Spooner, and Gideon from the blast, and then reassembles the Waverider, thus saving them from death.  They then return to grab the team, but Mike betrays them, and takes off with the Waverider, and blows up Gwyn's ship in the process.  The battle begins, and they have to save themselves, Gwyn, and try to rescue Alun in the process.  

Gwyn watches his younger self try to save a man, but he ends up dying, but Gwyn shows his bravery.  Nate ends up going after Alun, but his hit with mustard gas, which effects his powers.  He does manage to save Alun, and in the process, loses his powers for good.  At the end of the mission, Nate says it's time for him to go, as he's ready for life beyond the Legends.  So, Zari 2.0 gives him the wind totem, and he disappears to reunite with HIS Zari, and he departs the team.  Sara admits her pregnancy to everyone, and they celebrate until Mike returns.  He says he went to the future to tell off his bosses, but betrays the team yet again, when he brought time soldiers to arrest them, as he was arrested himself.  He reveals that his nickname is Booster Gold, and the team is left wondering what happens next as they face jail time.  

Well...in a season that---as I felt---wasn't as good as season's past, it DID wrap up this storyline in SOMEWHAT of a nice bow.  The introduction of Booster Gold DOES create a novel idea for some future storylines for next season----provided there IS a next season.  Had they wrapped everything up WITHOUT his presence, I would've been content with this being the series finale.  But now with Booster Gold aboard for the hijinks, I can see them having AT LEAST one more season of adventures with him in tow.  Donald Faison is a terrific character and comedic actor and can add so much to this team.  But since the CW hasn't renewed this show for another season, it's hard to say if we'll get one.  Also, with the sale of the network, it's also going to be interesting to see what OTHER shows get renewed for another season outside of The Flash and Superman & Lois. 

The real MVP of this entire season was Amy Pemberton, who's portrayal of Gideon not only as the usual A.I.  that we all knew so well, but now as an actual physical being that can join the team on their adventures.  She had to do A LOT for this season, as she had to be a good version AND a bad version.  We see her relationship with Astra grow, as it was because of Astra that she becomes a physical being to begin with.  They have this growing mother/daughter relationship, as well as her growing friendship with Spooner.  Spooner and Astra also grow closer, and we finally see Astra's powers grow, as well her and Behrad finally exploring a romantic relationship.  

Behrad also grew, as he stopped being the stoner comic character of the team, and stepped up big time.  His sister also grew into something more, as this Zari became a more well-rounded person, and wanted more out of life instead of her superficial self that she had been when we saw her 2 years ago.  So, it's been good to see people grow on this show, and have some serious character development.  We also got to know all about Spooner and where she originally came from, and got Sara and Ava to show their struggles as a married couple.  And now, with Sara pregnant, we're left wondering what a super kid like that will be like.  

Gwyn Davies was the new character on the scene, and credit to Matt Ryan for creating quite a look and contrast to John Constantine.  He's extremely versatile, and had a really good performance all year as the creator of time travel.  One of the things I was GLAD to be rid of before the season ended was Bishop.  That character annoyed me last year, and he didn't do me any favors this season, so his death didn't hurt me, as I was glad to see him go. 

We see that now the original member of this team left is Sara, as everyone around her has changed (Gideon's been there, but mostly in A.I. form for the good chunk of the series), but Sara is the lone wolf OG left of this team, as change has been a constant.  Nick Zano's departure leaves only Caity Lotz as the only longest-lasting character on this series.  And this show has managed to survive tons of change, but will it fall to the cancellation axe, or get one last run before to allow the series to wrap up properly.  If they DO have one more season, it doesn't have to be a long one.  Much like Arrow's last run only lasted 8 episodes, we could see a short storyline to put a wrap on the show, and allow these characters a proper send off.  We shall see.

SUPERMAN & LOIS 2.6

 

RECAP - SUPERMAN & LOIS  2.6:  "Tried and True"  

Infidelity, sibling rivalry, and a villain with domination on their minds.  This sounds like something you'd get from a daily soap opera, but it's just the latest installment of Superman & Lois.  This episode gave us the fallout from Kyle's revelation about his affair with bartender Tonya behind Lana's back...with this coming out DURING daughter Sarah's quinceañera.  We also have Jon's addiction to the inhaler that's given him powers, and he's going to enhance his football stock, even though Jordan feels he should tell their parents.  Lois now has Chrissy back on her side (hopefully), and they're going to dig in more about Alison Alston.  And speaking of HER---it turns out SHE is the real villain that Bizarro has said is the true threat to Earth, as he revealed to Clark and Lara.  So...what happened this time around?  Let's peek into Smallville to find out...

Lana's not had it well the last 24 hours.  Despite the party thrown for Sarah, she found out that Kyle cheated on her with the bartender Tonya.  He's not home, and the girls wonder when he's going to return.  Sarah notices that her mother is having a hard time.  She offers what comfort she can, but is also still feeling the hurt.  Jordan offers what comfort HE can, but he's also distracted by the fact that Jon has begun to display super powers.  But still, he tries to be there for Sarah.  Lana wonders when Kyle gave up the affair, and he said about a couple years ago---around the time of Sarah's suicide attempt.  Lana also sits down to talk to Clark, and she asks Clark what HE'D do if it was Lois that cheated on him.  He says that he'd have to assess the situation, and listen to the whole story, but would probably stay with her.  But he feels she needs to do what's best for her.  Lana then talks to Kyle at the fire station, and while he pleads that they're stronger, and they can get through anything together....she feels the need to separate for awhile.  She tells him to get his stuff from home and make for other sleeping arrangements. The road ahead for the Cushing family is going to be a tough one.

Speaking of families at odds. Sam Lane shows up with a surprise for Lois----Lucy.  She was reluctant to be there, and they started arguing immediately.  But Sam finally steps up to be Dad, and puts his foot down.  Eventually, Lucy mellows out, and is surprised to see how big the boys have gotten.  She talks to them, and they are happy to see her.  She also gives her regards to Clark, and they all end up going to Jon's game.  They talk about old times, but then it somehow gets to back to Alison Alston, and they start up the arguing again.  Lucy leaves bitterly, and Lois apologizes to Sam for not being able to keep her cool.  But it WAS nice to see both Lois and Lucy act like sisters for once.  And we can see how much Lucy loves the boys.  

For Jon and Jordan...they had another flare up this week, but this is due to the fact that Jordan was pressuring Jon about telling their parents about his incoming powers, but Jon holds him back on it until he's ready, and Jordan relents...but then finds the inhaler in Jon's bag, but Jon says it's Candice's.  Jon gets fired up about starting the game this night, and he goes out, and puts on a show.  Clark ends up leaving when he's got to respond to a danger that he overhears, and has to take off.  After the game, he's in the locker room, and Candice greets him, and he puts on a face for her, and he's greeted by Jordan, and he and Jordan talk after he says he'll meet Candice in a bit.  Jordan knows about the inhaler, because they found out about Tim being caught with it.  Jordan knows where Jon got his powers, and he and  Jon argue about it, and Jon says he kept Jordan's secret for a year, and now he wants Jordan to keep his, but Jordan knows it's wrong, and they're about to fight again, when Sam comes in and puts an end to it.  Both boys go their own ways, and they don't talk for a bit. Later on, they do talk, and Jon apologizes, and says he can't even feel good about the win....because he felt he didn't earn it. 

Superman's problems between him and Lt. Anderson just keep getting worse.  As Superman gets more info from Bizarro, he finds out that the pendant that the DoD got was something Bizarro tried to destroy (as we saw him try on his world), but could not, because this Earth's yellow sun weakens him.  Superman then attends the funeral for the two young members of Anderson's team that were killed by Bizarro.  The mother of one of them was nice to Superman, but slapped Anderson.  Anderson wasn't happy about that, but he and Superman talk, and Superman tells him about the pendant, but Anderson wants Bizarro, and Superman says he talked to him, but he says there's a bigger threat, and needs to destroy the pendant.  Anderson says no, and Superman takes off to stop an avalanche in Russia, which the DoD tracked him.  Anderson's superior grills him, and wants Bizarro...otherwise, he'll pay the price for his failure.  He then has an idea.  So, when he meets Superman again, he captures Superman, and says that he brought him to this, because he wouldn't cooperate.  So, he gets shot with Kryptonite.  He's then captured and loaded to the same prison his brother is in.  Sam then tells Lois that he's been arrested for treason.  

Once more, an episode heavy on the drama, as we had two brothers fighting each other, as well as two sisters not willing to back down from their own stances on an issue.  On top of that, a being that is here to destroy Alison Alston, but is considered a threat to the world at large.  And, the continued issues with Lt. Anderson and the DoD and their insistence that Superman comply with their every whim.  And because the Man of Steel has resisted those advances, he's now considered a criminal who has been treasonous against America.  This is NOT going to go over well when they put him with his brother, as well as if Bizarro gets loose, or when Alison makes her grand play.  Anderson is nothing more than a government stooge of a soldier that doesn't honestly care about anything but his own carcass, and that "America First" mentality.  He's already an annoying, tiresome character, and I'll be glad when he gets his just due.  

Lucy and Lois---oooooh, we had some harmony for just a LITTLE bit.  But, the Alison issue is going to be that sticking point until Lois and Chrissy can prove that she's NOT what she says she is, and can prove it to Lucy.  I credit Sam for stepping up as a dad this week, and TRYING to broker peace between his daughters.  But we're hoping for a positive reunion when the dust settles.....hopefully.  

Jon and Jordan had their typical brotherly spat, but this was for good reason.  Jordan is wondering how Jon's powers work, and they're not the typical as his are.  When he finds out that they found this inhaler with whatever drug is in it to give people powers in regards to the football player, Tim, he calls out Jon on it.  Jon's had to deal with being the "normal" kid in the Kent family, and it's gnawed at him.  But kudos to Jon to realize that having these enhancements doesn't mean life is better.  Winning the game was great for the school, but Jon feels empty---because he knows he cheated.  And when it comes out, the crap is going to hit the fan.  Not a conversation he's going to want to have with Lois and Clark.

As for the Cushings....well, Lana stood her ground, and she's doing what she has to do.  Kyle's in the doghouse, and he's gonna stay there for awhile.  I guess being Mayor of Smallville is NOT going to be on Lana's list.  Despite support from her daughters, and of course the Kents, the town may look down on her, and this just means Mayor Dean remains in place, and Smallville continues to suffer.  But either way, Kyle has to smarten up, and he's going to have to go above and beyond to win Lana back....if that's even possible.  But I also give props to Sarah for stepping up, and giving strength and support to her mom, as Lana is breaking down.  

All in all, the show continues to tell a good story, plant the seeds here and there for the rest of the season, and give us the human interactions that make these characters so fun to read and watch.  What did you like or dislike about this installment?  Subscribe to the blog, and leave your thoughts below.

BATWOMAN 3.12

 

RECAP - BATWOMAN  3.12:  "We're All Mad Here" 

This penultimate episode of Season 3 sets everything up for quite a finale.  We've got Marquis going off the deep end, and trying to channel is inner Joker, Batwoman trying to stop him, while trying to balance her new romance with Sophie, Mary trying to still come to grips with what she did to the camper, and Alice is looking to get the joy buzzer to cure herself of the madness that has plagued her most of her life.  So...what happens when things REALLY start to hit the fan?  Let's find out...

Alice's mind may not live here anymore, as her hallucinations hit maximum overdrive this week.  We kick things off with her actually getting the joy buzzer and using it on herself, and then telling Mary that she's finally cured.  We then see this sequence of her---as Beth, being put on trial, and being exonerated for her crimes because she wasn't herself.  She tries to make peace with Ryan, only to have her advances rebuffed....Ryan isn't the forgiving type.  But then we realize it's all a dream, and it's making Alice desperate.  She's genuinely upset with her life, and wants to change, so she goes to see Mary, who had packed her a bag and money to get her OUT of town, but Alice doesn't want that....she wants the joy buzzer.  Mary also tells her that she's going to go see the family of the man she killed---the guilt is overwhelming and she can't handle it.  Alice advises against it, but Mary isn't her, and they have something of a tiff.  As Alice says that Mary needs just put it out of mind and out of sight, Mary can't do that.  Mary says that Alice should've stopped her from doing what she did, but because Alice was only capable of thinking of herself, she dragged Mary down with her.  

Alice then pays a visit to Kiki about getting the joy buzzer, but Marquis shows up, and puts a stop to that by actually killing Kiki, and blasting Alice with a dose of the Joker's laughing gas.  Alice wakes up to see that she's watching Marquis execute his master plan by killing off the Black Glove Society.  Alice starts hallucinating about Mouse, and Mouse tells her that she doesn't deserve the buzzer...especially after what she did to him.  She tries hard to shake off the visions, and watches as Marquis tries to kill Barbara Keane, and then go after Jada Jet. The joy buzzer gets loose in a melee between Marquis and Batwoman, and Alice goes for it, but she and Sophie fight over it.  Later on, we see Alice locked back in Arkham, where her visions continue to worsen, and she sees Ocean and Mouse as her orderlies, continuing to mock her.  Mary actually shows up to thank her for looking out for her.  When Mary went to go see the family, they knew who Mary was, and said that the boy saw a blonde woman killing his father----and Alice owned up to it.  Alice gave Mary an out, and she apologizes regardless.  The family understands--so they think--about what Mary's gone through.  But when Mary pays Alice a visit, she apologizes to Mary once again for what she did---give Marquis access to the Batcave.

As for Batwoman herself, she's hunting down members of Marquis' team to find out what his next move is.  She manages to get a laptop from his lawyer to fish for information.  And while her and Sophie had a romantic night, they still haven't given themselves the "official" label as yet, and then there's Jada, who she and Sophie still don't see eye to eye, but it needs to be parked until they take care of Marquis.  They find some info on the computer, but can't quite make it out...except for Barbara Keane, who was Jim Gordon's ex.  Turns out, their kid when a little wacko, and Barbara paid off someone to keep the whole ordeal under wraps....sound familiar?  Jada knows what's up, and calls her people, letting them know that Marquis is coming.  She leaves, and doesn't want Ryan involved, but Sophie continues to argue with her down to the street.  Jada gets into the car, and tells Sophie to keep quiet about her involvement in the Black Glove Society. She takes off, but another car shows up.  Turns out, Marquis abducted his mother.  

As Marquis has his mother, Jeremiah Arkham, and Barbara Keane, he exposes all their sins:  about how they formed the Society to ensure the avoidance of scandal.  By paying off Arkham and several others to try and cure their kids, or keep them under wraps to ensure that they don't harm anyone else.  But Marquis is going to not only expose them, but kill them.  He starts by trying to use the same gasses that Keane had used on her son, that left him in a vegetative state.  Then, he planned on using Mr. Freeze's freeze canister to kill his own mother, as she tried to do to him.  Batwoman shows up, and Marquis talks about how the Joker took over the school bus he was on, how he used the buzzer to mess Marquis up, and then Marquis watched as the Joker ran this car off the bridge they were on---which turned out to be the same car that carried Kate and Beth Kane.  Alice gets wind of this, and offers a deal with him in order to get the joy buzzer, but he's not down with it.  When he and Batwoman face off, as she tells him what she managed to do with her life despite having nothing, while he was given EVERYTHING.  He manages to best her enough to grab the freeze canister, and planned on killing her with it, but Jada shoots him, and he drops it, and flees.  She and Ryan embrace.  They then tell her that they have the buzzer, and hope to use it on Marquis when they can.  

All through this season, we've seen Sophie and Ryan's relationship grow...and as much as they've bickered and argued, there's no denying the attraction.  They finally gave into it last episode, but were still trying to define it this time around, and with Jada interrupting, it made things complicated.  But Ryan is trying to stop her brother, and she's just trying to keep things in perspective.  However, they DO manage to talk, and with Luke and Mary present, finally admit that they, indeed, are a "thing".  

Well, we have finally established Ryan and Sophie as a couple, so we can finally put THAT to bed.  As for the revelation that Jada was a part of the Black Glove Society...not a surprise.  I kind of pegged that one early on.  But to know Jim Gordon's ex Barbara Keane (which is a nice shoutout to Gotham), was a part of it, as well as Jeremiah Arkham, and started by Tommy Elliott's mother also shows that the rich and infulential would to ANYTHING to avoid scandal and to have their kids' psycho tendencies exposed to the world (though that didn't help Jacob Kane...did it?).  We also find out that Marquis was a student on the very bus the Joker abducted, and forced the Kane family off the road and into Gotham River.  So, little dots being connected here to paint a bigger narrative.  

As for Alice...we see the aspects of Beth Kane wanting to come forth, and we're seeing---after her witnessing what Mary's acts as Poison Ivy 2.0 has done to her psychologically.  Alice hasn't had much to hang onto until Mary went rogue.  But she's also never really finished her sister off, either...much like the chances she had with Kate.  Beneath all that psycho bluster, Alice is still craving her family as much as her freedom.  But we're seeing her fully understand the consequences of her actions.  And knowing what Mary was going to risk by revealing that she killed the family's patriarch, Alice instead protected her sister the best way she knew how:  she took the blame.  Beneath it all---I think that Alice has grown to love Mary in much the same way she loves Kate.  And she knows that if she let Mary take the fall...her father would be disappointed...and so would Kate.  That still matters to Alice.  And seeing what Marquis has become is a stark reminder to Alice as to what Augustus did to her all those years---the trauma that Marquis ended up suffering with one buzzer zap, and how it can totally change a person.  So, for Alice...that's growth.

I like that we've gotten more into the psychology of the villains this season....as it should be with any Bat villain.  We got a more well rounded story this season, character progression, and growth, and Ryan come into her own fully as Batwoman.  I'm curious to see how Marquis' final hand is played, and how his sister will stop him.  I wonder if Jada will survive this, and will she be a sacrifice in order to push Ryan forward.  Alice's fate also remains unknown, but I feel she will never be cured....she's been too good a villain, but we'll see how it all shakes out.  So...how did YOU all like this episode?  Subscribe below and lemme know what your thoughts are on this episode and this overall season.  What do YOU see for the future of Batwoman?
