BATWOMAN 3.7

RECAP - BATWOMAN  3.7:  "Pick Your Poison"

And the poison has gotten DANGEROUS, as Mary has had her Poison Ivy itch to scratch---and scratch it she did in this installment, as Batwoman now faces more threats than what she can handle---and it's going to test Ryan Wilder's resolve---and that of the Bat Team, going forward.  Not only has Mary jumped to the dark side....with a little push from good ol' stepsis Alice...but now her half-brother, whom she tried to get frozen into an ice cube in order to cure him of his...homicidal tendencies...didn't like the plan, and has now taken something EXTREMELY precious from her AND the team:  Wayne Enterprises.  Things are tough all over, and it DOESN'T look like things will get better anytime soon.

First of all...let's talk about Mary.  Dr. Hamilton has been battling a bit of the Poison Ivy since her little nightcap in Gotham Park, that she's gone through a HUGE growth, if you will.  Got to develop an INCREDIBLE thirst for water, suddenly developed a SEVERE green thumb, and her clinic looked like Wild Kingdom.  And try as she might, she was NEVER able to get through to either Ryan OR Luke about her issues----until it was too late.  And this week, too late came to a huge bloom.  As Mary and Alice took off on their road trip, Alice was in dire need of ridding herself of the nanobites that has been injected into her body, thus allowing everyone to track her anywhere she goes.  She hints to dear sis that she could use a blood transplant.  We find out that Alice has that nice rare blood type---"O", baby!  So, in order to cover their tracks, the former head of the Wonderland Gang sliced herself, and started wiping her blood on several vehicles, thus causing Luke to get confused when they finally found her, but the signal was going in all different directions.  And as Batwoman and Sophie tried tracking her, they only managed to stop a guy driving his car with her blood stain on it.

Alice and Mary made their way to some roadside bar to see if they can find a lucky candidate for a blood transfusion.  So, Mary uses her newfound Ivy powers to influence the bartender and several of the patrons, while she conducted a quick blood test to find the right person for Alice's transplant.  They DID manage to find their guy, and get the transfusion completed. But...trouble looms as a cop spots them, and they have to make a break for it---in the process, Mary runs over the cop with the van.  She goes out to check on him, but Alice encourages her to forget him and get a move on....so they bail.

Now...before we get to the confrontation between our Mary Ivy and the Scarlet Crusader, we back up a bit and fill you in on Ryan's issues as she tries to help Mary.  As Sophie wakes up with her hangover, and Montoya left her a note, she gets a call from Luke, and they meet at the Batcave, where they have to track their little lost flower.  Meanwhile, Ryan and Jada set Marquis up as they pulled off a hoax meet in a parking garage, and they drug him to help him get over whatever it is the Joker did to him.  Jada also is helping Ryan with Mary, by getting a serum to help Mary get back to normal.  While her scientists are working on that, she's also prepping her son to go into the deep freeze.  However, he lures her in with his crying, and breaks free, and kills some of the other assistants in the lab.  He then takes off, telling his mother that nothing is wrong with him...he just feels free.

Things just keep getting worse for Ryan when she discovers Jada in her lab shaken up.  Jada and Sophie search for the vial for Mary, but all they find is another dead scientist.  Ryan then shows up in her office at Wayne Tower, and Marquis is there....with the vial.  Marquis says he's going to have some fun now, and that he played Ryan to get what he wants:  her resignation from Wayne, so that he can take over, and show her and their mother just what he can do.  So, Ryan is forced to give it all up for the vial to save Mary.  In the process, Marquis also calls his mother and tells him to keep her eyes glued to the tube, as he'll have a huge announcement the next day.  All this after he rouged up Luke some more when he arrived.

Luke, incapacitated, told Sophie what happened, and they both express guilt over not listening to Mary more, and pushing her away.  Also, for Sophie, her little tryst with Montoya.  They then manage to realize that Mary can't survive without her coffee.  So, tracking her gift cards, they found her at the pub.  So, Batwoman goes to confront Mary, and she tells Mary she can help her.  But Mary is just not having ANY of it....pulls some branches from under the pavement, and ensnares Batwoman, crushing the vial.  Mary and Alice take off...leaving Batwoman to try and free herself.  She gets back to the cave, and she tells Luke and Sophie that Mary refused the serum...and she's out there now...ready to cause trouble. Mary gave up on them.

The next nail in the coffin is the press conference from Marquis, talking about his plans for Wayne Enterprises, and how he's going to have some fun....which is only trouble for everyone else.  The teams' security credentials have been taken, and they cannot get into Wayne Tower....and that also means they're locked out of the Batcave, but Luke locked that down to prevent Marquis from finding it.  They do have the suit and the Batmobile.  But they're going to have to do things from scratch.  She apologizes to Luke for screwing up and losing Wayne Enterprises...but he forgives her because she did it for Mary.

And speaking of Mary...her and Alice are in a hotel, when Mary comes out....fully into Poison Ivy mode---and she catches Marquis at his press conference....and she's taking a fancy to him.

This episode was just crap hitting the fan for the Bat Team and THEN some!  Now, they're without the Cave, the equpiment IN the cave, and they're locked OUT of Wayne Tower indefinitely.  Marquis made his play, and won.  He's going to prove that he's better than his mother AND sister, as whatever plans he has for Wayne Enterprises...can only spell trouble for Gotham.  The lines are drawn between he and Ryan now, and she's going to have to find a way to take him down.  But before THAT...they have to deal with their OTHER problem that came home to roost:  Mary.  Alice did a WONDERFUL job of manipulating Mary juuuuuust enough to make her feel like she was the weak link and the worthless spoke on the Bat Team wheel.  And when Mary got her night in the vines at Gotham Park...all that frustration, anger, and loneliness from not feeling a part of the team built up into this Ivy persona...which still has some huge tinges of Pamela Isley.  Now with Alice by her side, and Alice knowing she has a powerful ally in her sister now---they plans they have for Gotham are NOT good.  If Alice wanted revenge on her father and Kate for her----she just got it in Mary.  And while we KNOW the REAL Poison Ivy won't be far away---she'll return....once the Bat Team can actually get Mary back to herself---I have a feeling that her time as Ivy will change her in many ways---and her relationships with her friends...and mostly her sister....will be different. She has a better understanding of Alice now, and that will forge their relationship more...whether they know it or not....or LIKE IT or not.

Ryan found out Sophie slept with Renee, and that didn't go over well.  But neither did Ryan hiding her brother's insanity from them.  So, it seems like we've got a tiny lover's quarrel that will HAVE to be put aside for now, as they try to prevent Gotham from going deeper into Hell.  Luke is out of commission, and the Batwing suit is locked up in the Cave.  Sophie is needed on the front lines, and that means working with Ryan more.  So, hopefully, they can air out their differences, and they can get back on track.  Because, trust me, despite her one night stand...Sophie is still attracted to Ryan.

Jada's plan went to crap, and now she has to watch her son go wild with power at his disposal courtesy of Wayne Enterprises.  Will she completely join forces with Ryan to put him down before HE goes off the rails?  It seems like Mother and Daugher...good or bad...will now have to work together to save their own before he destroys the city.  Not quite what I expected when I first saw Jada Jet....but they've sure changed us about her in a hurry.

And, people, I'm gonna say this because I have to:  Nicole Kang absolutely KILLS IT in her Poison Ivy costume.  Ooooooooh MY did she look freakin' stunningly HOT!!!  Amazing!  She's taken to this like a fish to water, and I think she's loving the hell out of it!

What did YOU guys think of this episode?  How do you feel about the Bat Team's chances for turning everything around?  And a combo of Marquis and Mary?  How lethal is THAT going to be?  Subscribe and leave a comment or theory below---it's fun!

Until mid January....the Signal is OFF!
