SUPERMAN & LOIS 2.7

RECAP  - SUPERMAN & LOIS  2.7:  " Anti-Hero"

No one can seem to catch a break on this show.  If it isn't the Man of Steel himself having to have a difference of philosophy with Lt. Anderson of the DoD about how to handle this Bizarro business, and his loyalty to America, it's Lois dealing with her sister Lucy, to having to help her husband, and her boys.  Jon and Jordan sparring with each other over Jon's use of the X-K inhaler to give him powers.  And then there's the Cushings---who have do endure the fallout of what happened when Kyle's affair with Tonya the bartender has come to light.  All of this, and there's still Alison Allston still plotting whatever it is SHE has up her sleeve.  But THIS week took a different turn for many of the parties involved....

It seems as if this episode, the dominoes fall, as Superman....now stuck with his brother Tal in DoD prison, has to deal with Anderson, who accuses him of treason, what with the fact that he failed to give up Bizarro, who killed two members of his team (inexperienced kids, mind you, but Anderson doesn't care---they're soliders).  And because the Man of Steel refused to give him up yet, it put Anderson in the position that he didn't want---getting flak from his superior, General Hardcastle, so he's also got his team looking to where Bizarro is.  Superman tries to warn him about Alison Allston, but Anderson is disinterested.  He tries to warn him that she's evil, and if she gets the pendant, she'll destroy the Earth.  Anderson gets leverage on Superman by torturing Tal with a Kryptonite collar that chokes him.  Superman gives him coordinates, and Anderson is off....but NOT before he breaks into the supply of X-K that they had stored, and starts pumping himself up with it.  He's going to take down Bizarro on his own.

Tal and Kal bicker a little, but then Kal devises a way to escape in order to stop Anderson before he kills Bizarro, and thus allow Alison a chance to complete her ultimate mission.  And while they're plotting escape, it's Sam and Lois doing what they can to try and get Clark loose before things get worse.  Tal and Kal fake a fight, and it allows them to fool Anderson's troops, and they manage to escape, as they head towards Tal's Fortress where Lara and Bizarro are.  As they try to get there, they see Anderson looking to kill Bizarro. Superman and Tal both try to battle Anderson, but he's juiced up to the max, and manages to take down both men.  He then looks to shoot Superman with a Kryptonite gun, but Tal jumps in front, saving his brother, and taking the bullets himself.  Lara instructs her son to remove the Kryptonite, and save him.  Superman does, and flies him into space towards the sun as he tries to revive him, and heal him.  Meanwhile, She lets Bizarro loose, and he and Anderson battle, but while the Kryptonite doesn't hurt Bizarro, the sun of our world weakens him, and Anderson manages to kill him.  Superman flies back to Earth with his brother, but discovers that Bizarro is dead, and that Anderson has gone AWOL.  Later on, Clark tells of his encounter with Anderson to Sam and Lois, and Sam says that they're looking for Anderson, but he rabbited.  What we later discover is that he meets up with Alison, and offers her a chance to complete her mission...by offering her the other pendant that she was looking for.  As for Kal...he returned Tal to his prison, and Tal apologizes for harming Jordan, and tells his brother to apologize to him.  Kal says that hopefully one day, he'll get to do that on his own.

While Lois is doing all the juggling she can between digging more into Alison, and trying to help Clark, she's also makes time to try and help Lana out with her scenario in regards to Kyle, and how it will effect her running for Mayor.  Lois does what she can to instill confidence in Lana. They end up giving each other a lift, and it allows them to deal with what's next.  For Lana, it's facing the town and Mayor Dean and his act, and for Lois, having to deal with Alison, and now Jon's juicing with the X-K....where he refused to give up Candice and her father as the sellers.

Jon's world comes crashing down, as he and Jordan talk about his powers, but then park the chat for now.  However, Candice comes up to him with a huge bag of the inhalers, but Jon isn't happy about how he cheated to win.  He's not going to take it anymore, but then things go from bad to worse, as security is looking for the one who sold the inhaler to Tim, and Candice begs Jon to help her, because she can't be caught with them, and Jon decides to take the fall, thinking that because of his rep now, he's untouchable....WRONG!  He's on the verge of being expelled, and when Lois hears about this, she gets royally pissed.  She isn't happy that Jordan knew about it, and didn't say anything.  And when Jon refuses to cough up Candice as the seller, his troubles are just beginning.  Once Clark arrives home, he reads Jon the riot act, and all he can do is break down and cry after realizing just how bad he screwed up....and betrayed his family.

As for Lana and Sarah...in the wake of moving Kyle out of the house, they have to figure out their next move.  Kyle keeps trying to talk to Sarah, but she refuses, because she's not sure she wants to hear what he has to say.  Jordan tries to be supportive, but Sarah can't even deal with him at this point in time.  So, she goes and talks to the gal she made out with at camp for perspective.  Her friend, having come from a broken home, gives her some solid advice.  Sarah does end up talking to her dad at the end of it, and there'll be much to discuss, but it will go a long way towards healing.  As for Lana, being unsure as to how she'll be able to run with Mayor Dean espousing a "family values" platform to the citizenry, Lana approaches him at the end of the episode and essentially calls him out on his crap.  She points out his hypocrisy, and calling him out, saying how could it be considered 'family values' when you attack someone's family issues during such a difficult time.  The faces on the patrons in the diner was just classic.

Overall, yet another dramatic episode that's building the character's traits and exposing their faults, as well as showing just how human EVERYONE is---including aliens.  Tal rescuing Superman from death is a huge turning point for him, and their little brotherly moment was a nice touch.  Does it mean we trust Tal?  HELL NO!  He's got a LONG road to redemption...but it's nice to know he still has SOME heart in him.  Clark exploding at Jon for screwing up is exactly the kind of thing I expected from him as a father.  I know he feels deep down he's let his boys down, but even then, as teenagers, with HIM as their father, they'd have known right from wrong.  So...it's going to be interesting just how long Jon is going to hide Candice's side job before he feels his only option is to give her up.  I don't know just WHO her dad is, but apparently, he was more trouble than he was worth in Central City, and have no idea IF he had any run-ins with The Flash, but it's possible.  Either way, I expect THIS situation to be a powder-keg that blows.  And I wonder if there's a connection between that and the DoD...because how did Candice and her dad manage to GET any of this stuff?

Anderson is AWOL, and I KNEW he'd be trouble for Superman, and NOW the situation is worse, because he's going to align himself with Alison, and that just means MORE problems on the horizon.  She's going to be on the vendetta path against Lois Lane, and use Lucy as bait, while Sam and Superman are going to track down Anderson, and have to deal with them, so the Super threat isn't over yet....but it's getting interesting.  And also---once again, we see the strength and resolve of Sarah through this difficult time.  She's getting stronger by the day, and her character has taken a huge leap since the first season.
