SUPERMAN & LOIS 2.10

RECAP - SUPERMAN & LOIS  2.10:  "Bizarros in a Bizarro World"

This latest installment of The Man of Steel and his family gave us an interesting perspective:  Superman's journey into Bizarro World.  As we see views of many characters in this episode not just from "our" world's perspective, but from the views of those in Bizarro World as well.

For Superman himself, we see him travel through the void that claimed not only Lt. Anderson, but Ally Alston as well.  And he winds up in another universe---the Bizarro Universe, with a cubed Earth, and a red sun.  He lands on this Earth, and ends up meeting with the Jonathan Kent of this planet...who is the Superboy here.  They head back to the remnants of the Kent Farm, where he says they need to get the pendants before Alison does.  Superman says he doesn't have them, and that Lt. Anderson does.  They need to find him before it's too late.  However, we see Bizarro Lois arrive, and Jon was quick to tell her that she should've stayed hidden.

Through a series of flashbacks in this episode, we get varying perspectives on the events that led to this moment where Alison was looking to merge the two Earths.  First, we get the Kent Family, where Kal and Lois are married, both with Jon and Jordan, but Jordan is the quiet one, with no powers it seems, while Jon is the one who's got the powers.  The Kal on THIS Earth is a huge media sensation as well as the resident superhero, but it seems that he and Jon butt heads about Jon's future...especially when Jon performs a rescue as his dad is signing autographs, and he becomes the most talked about thing.  As much as Lois and Kal try to keep Jon under wraps, he's making the rounds, and doing the hero bit, but it's not sitting well with his dad, who tells him what he can and cannot do.  Jon is tired of listening, and takes off.  He then runs into Alison, who shows him that he can be "better".  So, he secretly joins her in her cult in order to merge the two worlds together.  Meanwhile, Clark is hearing the story about how THIS Earth's Kent family fell apart...as Kal began experimenting with the X-K to stop Alison, and it's made him more paranoid, as well has scarier.  As much as he's there for his brother Tal...who ends up marrying Lana...they also join Alison's cult, seeing her vision.  It means that Tal betrays his brother, even though they've had this close bond for some time, but Tal doesn't want to lose his wife, either.

Lois and Sam in this world end up finding Lt. Anderson, and have him hidden underneath the main house on the farm.  That's when Jon shows up, and shows his true colors, wanting the pendants for Alison, or he'll kill everyone.  He takes down Sam, and he's about to hurt Lois, before Anderson shows up and stops him.  Anderson now realizes WHY Superman didn't tell him what was up----he was protecting his family, and he knows that Superman is Clark Kent.  So, he gives the pendants to Superman, tells him to go back to their Earth, and stop Alison before it's too late.  Jon and Anderson fight, and soon, Tal and Clark battle...especially knowing that this Earth's Kal died trying to save them all...trying to make up for his mistakes.  But as Tal has Superman, and Alison has gotten the pendants, and begins the merge...Superman reminds him of what he lost---and Tal realizes that everything will be wiped out on another Earth if Alison carries through with her plan.  So, he lets Superman go, and she is stopped by him by getting the pendants.  Anderson comes back to help, but he his killed by Jon.  Jon has the pendants, and realizes that HE can reshape the world, so he chases Superman back to our Earth, where he meets up with Lois and Jordan on Earth Prime.  He's not there for them, and tells them Clark didn't make it back.  But he's there looking for Earth Prime Jon.

The buildup to this story has been well done, and the drama and stakes have increased with each episode.  And we see just HOW fragile the Kent dynamic is----even in a Bizarro world.  On that Earth, Jon is STILL feeling like he's treated as an afterthought, and as a child, instead of a young man who is capable of great things---if only his father hadn't been so negligent.  So much so, it causes Lois to leave him with Jordan.  She can't handle what he's become.  And despite Tal trying to help him, he knows that Alison's long-term plan is NOT good for EITHER Earth, hence him coming to Earth Prime to kill her before she initiates her plan.  But...her plan kind of backfires because of Tal willing to side with his brother, and betraying Alison and even his wife Lana.  This Jon has now seen what Alison's plan is...and feels HE can be better suited by merging with the Jon Kent of this Earth---because they both are feeling the same thing:  despondent, depressed, left out, and not given a chance.  So, this endgame with only a handful of episodes left is going to be HUGE for what's to come.  Will Alison manage to amass some troops from the Bizarro world to make her push back to Earth Prime, and fulfill her own prophecy on her own, or will Jon carry out her plan in her stead?  Has Superman made it back home?  We do know that---despite going rogue---Anderson redeemed himself prior to his death, by saving Superman, and giving him the pendants, telling him to save their Earth.  He saw WHY Superman withheld information---to protect his family.  It was cool to see that even someone as hard-headed as Anderson, can finally see WHY Superman is the hero he is...and why he's done it the way he's done it.  It was very well done on everyone's parts to play various versions of themselves, giving us the contrast we required to see the variations between both worlds.

How did YOU all feel about this episode?  Did the varying perspectives of the characters help paint the Bizarro world in a much more vivid picture?  What do you think of Anderson's redemption?  And do you feel now that the REAL villain of the piece isn't so much Alison...but Jon himself?  Subscribe to the blog and lemme know YOUR thoughts, opinions, and speculations below.

Until next time....Up, up, and away!
