SUPERMAN & LOIS 1.15

RECAP -  SUPERMAN & LOIS  1.15:  "The Last Sons of Krypton"

Our first season of Superman & Lois has been QUITE a ride...both with the action and the drama.  The journey The Man of Steel and his family took us on was intriguing, and now we have reached the end of this first arc for The Kents, and I'm excited to see what the future holds for the Super Family of Smallville.  So, now that Tal-Rho...Morgan Edge...has fully become the Eradicator, he is set to carry out the plans of reshaping Earth into the new Krypton...and he's going to use Superman's son, Jordan, now possessed by the essence of Tal-Rho's father, Zeta, to help him in his quest.  It's up to Superman and Steel...along with the DOD...to quell the threat.  How did our heroes fare?  Let's find out....

With Leslie Larr in custody once again, Superman and Lois are distraught, as they have no idea where Jordan is, and what Edge has done with him.  John has his AI computer scanning for both Jordan and Edge, but nothing.  He orders it to continue the search, and widen the range.  Leslie mocks them and says that they'll never stop Tal and his plan as she's led away.  Superman promises his wife that he won't give up until they get their son back.  He tells John to stay behind while he continues the search.  Meanwhile, Sara has brought her parents to help out Jon and General Lane, who has a serious injury.  Sam isn't interested in getting help, but Kyle insists he get looked at.  Sarah asks Jon why Edge would take Jordan.  Meanwhile, Lois catches up with the guards that have Leslie in custody, and Lois wants to know what Edge did with her son.  Leslie taunts her, and says that she can't stop what's coming...and neither can Superman.  While Leslie continues to rub salt in the wound, Tal and Zeta...now in Jordan's body, are ready for their final phase of the plan to change Earth into Krypton.

The townsfolk have gathered at the DoD headquarters, and they are restless.  They want answers, and won't leave until they do.  Chrissy Beppo then asks the question Sam is going to have to be forced to answer:  Edge was not captured.  Sam tells them no.  And the town wonders if he will be back, and what he will do.  They don't have to wait long, because Edge has appeared in the sky above them.  While Superman has flown out into space just above the Earth...and tries to listen to Jordan...and screams out his name.  He then hears Jordan all out to him.  He then flies out to a volcano, where he finds Jordan.  They hug, and he asks Jordan what happened, but Jordan doesn't know, all he remembers is the accident.  But then Jordan powers up and blasts his dad with heat vision.  Zeta then appears and he says that Jordan has been eradicated.  He keeps beating down Superman, and Superman doesn't fight back.  Zeta tells him that Jordan was the perfect vessel for his plan---because of his unique DNA.  Zeta wonders why Kal-El won't fight back....after all, he was willing to sacrifice his own son Tal in order to rebuild Krypton.

Steel is back in Smallville, and he knows that Edge is about to attack the town, and it's time for him to step up and bring him down.  As Steel tries to do all he can to hold off Edge, Superman is still trying to get to Jordan, but Zeta keeps beating Superman, and tells him that there is nothing Kal-El can do to stop them.  Edge starts using his powers to make more Kryptonians, and General Lane and Lois start telling the townsfolk to get out of there, as Edge's new subjects take off with him.  Sam then tells Lois and Chrissy to start getting the word out to the townsfolk to get out and evacuate for their safety.  Chrissy and Lois get to work, as well as the Cushings.  Sarah asks Sam about finding Jordan, and Sam assures her that they have the best lifeform looking for her boyfriend.

Clark is distraught, because he can't help Jordan, and wonders what more he can do to stop Zeta and Tal from completing their mission.  Lois says that Clark has shouldered a lot, and it's time for him to let THEM help him.  She tells him to worry about stopping Edge, and SHE will handle finding a way to save Jordan.  She says they can use the machine they had to reach Jordan, and try to pull him out of the darkness, like when Clark was taken over by Zod.  She says she's helped Jordan battle his darkness his whole life, and believes in the boys.  So does Clark....because they are so much like their parents.

Chrissy is getting the word out, and the Cushings are ready to bail town, and Lana calls her mother to let her know to keep Sophie there until they arrive.  Jon comes in with all the weapons he took from John Henry, and Sam brings in more weapons, and the equipment to help Lois try and get Jordan back.  She says she has this, and tells her father to go save the world.  Then Jon is handed a weapon, and is told to back his mother.  If Jordan doesn't come out of it, Jon will have to blast him.  John Henry powers up his hammer, and it's loaded with the energy set up to take Edge down.  But it's only good for one shot, and it has to be a direct hit, so there's no way they can afford to miss.  Superman and Steel take off to face down Edge and his soldiers before he initiates his master plan.  Both men face off against the Eradicator's soldiers, and fare as well as they can.  One gets Superman into a choke hold, and then Zeta shows up...just ready to deliver the killing blow, he's blasted by Steel with some Red Kryptonite...just enough to stun him.  This allows Superman to get free of the soldiers, and it allows John Henry to grab Jordan and deliver him to the Kent Farm.

With Jordan now back at the farm, Lois puts on the headband, and puts the other one on Jordan as well.  Zeta says that there is no way Lois will be able to find him.  Jon is ready in case anything happens to his mother, and she heads into Jordan's mind.  She sees all of Zeta's memories.  At this time, John Henry has rejoined Superman, and they start to witness the Eradicator begin to expand his powers and starts blasting the townsfolk, and they flee, trying to seek safety.  Zeta keeps mocking Lois, saying that he'll never find Jordan...but he can find HER.  Jordan wakes up as Jon approaches...wanting his brother to fight and come out of this.  It looks like Jordan is okay, but he fools Jon, and it's Zeta, as he grabs Jon by the neck, and he lifts him up...hovering as he chokes Jon.  In Jordan's mind, Lois does find Jordan, and urges him to fight. He must fight harder than he ever has before.  Jon, even with the life being choked out of him...tells his brother that he loves him.  That seems to snap Jordan back, and he fights off Zeta.  Lois comes out of the trance, and she and the boys are safe, as Jordan is back.

With the soldiers of the Eradicator taken down, Superman and Steel begin their assault on the Eradicator himself.  John Henry's armor is failing, but he keeps going, even though his AI is telling him that he has to get back to Earth.  As Superman and Eradicator continue to battle, John Henry powers up the hammer, and it throws it directly at the Eradicator.  It finds it's mark.  The Eradicator goes down, and John Henry falls back to Earth, his systems done, and on his way to dying.  But just before he hits the Earth, he's saved by Clark.  Edge has fallen to Earth as well, but crash lands.  Leslie...in her cell once again...can feel the failure of the Eradicator's plans.  Edge, weakened, said that all he ever wanted was a family----and Kal looks at him and says he DID have it...they were brothers.

In the aftermath, we see Superman giving an interview to Chrissy about who Morgan Edge really is, and what his plans were with the mines.  He informs them that he's no longer a threat, and that he knows that Smallville will recover---he believes in the citizens.

With the crisis behind them, the town tries to get back to normal, and it's party time.  The Cushings are hosting, and Lois presents Chrissy with a check, as they have sold their brownstone in Metropolis, and Lois wants to buy half the paper with Chrissy.  Lois is interested in being partners, and Chrissy agrees.  Sam and John Henry talk, and he says that he's stepping away from active duty to spend more time with the family.  He feels that they'll find a suitable replacement---maybe John Henry.  Lois approaches him, and offers him a place to stay in Smallville, but he decides that he needs to go out into the world, and find a life of his own.  And he can't stay, because every time he looks at Lois...all he sees is his wife.  He doesn't know what happens next, but he might get in touch with his sister.  No matter where he goes, the Kents just want him happy.  We see Jon playing video games with his teammates, and then Tegan shows up....and things look bright for her and Jon.  Elsewhere, Sarah and Jordan finally admit their love for each other.

Clark is happy that his best friend Lana is staying in Smallville, and she's happy as well.  Later on, we see the Kents out by a tree, where they bury the crystal that had held the essence of Jor-El.  Clark says that when he was growing up, he had felt different and alone.  Jor-El had showed Kal-El all the answers to his questions, and how to fit in to this world.  He was grateful for what his father taught him.

John is about ready to take off, doing a last check over everything, and taking a look around.  As he's about to say his farewell to the Kents, they both get a warning about something incoming fast.  Both Clark and John race out to the front of the farm, where they see a ship crash land to the ground.  As the smoke clears, the ship opens, and a young woman steps out...John recognizes her, and it's his daughter.  She has arrived on this Earth, and they both embrace.  But then she notices the Kents...specifically Lois...and calls her "Mom" as the show ends...leaving the Kents in shock.

This was a solid ending to a first season.  They wrapped up the story in a nice bow, and while the threat of The Eradicator and Zeta is gone....we still have Morgan Edge and Leslie Larr alive and ready to cause more trouble should they escape.  But at least for NOW...we can bury any chance of a Krypton come back.  And it was also great that Clark allowed Lois and the other people in his life lend a hand...showing him--and us--that they too can handle the dangers that face our superheroes when they need to.  To ME...it's the boys themselves...Jordan and Jon...stepped up the whole season and delivered as amazing characters.  They faced each threat with courage and strength, and proved they are every bit the product of two exceptionally strong people....Lois & Clark.  We got to see General Sam Lane go from being a hardcore soldier to a man who realizes that he has a family who needs him as their father and grandfather, respectively.  It will be interesting to see how much of a role we'll see Sam Lane in next season.  We got to see the Cushings go from being incredibly dysfunctional to a tight family unit when their backs were against the wall...and a great little bit of redemption for them.  It's also good to see that the boys have managed to find love lives, and that'll create not only some sweet moments, but also---possibly---some funny ones, and there will ALWAYS be drama involved---especially when it comes to the secret that the boys MUST maintain about their father.

Lois AND Chrissy running the paper will continue to build on THEIR dynamic ....I just hope we see more than THEM at the paper.  It's like the Central City Citizen---we only have TWO staff members:  Iris and Allegra.  Need a staff for these papers.  It lacks depth when you show these places, and the buildings seem empty or too small.  Have to make it feel REAL.

John Henry now has a chance to go out on his own, have his own adventures, and we can help develop HIS story outside of Smallville.  But it looks like his story is going to stay in Smallville for at least the forseeable future, what with John's daughter is now on this Earth, and this will complicate things now that she sees her mother---Lois---in the flesh...but will be heartbroken to find out that this is NOT the Lois Lane of her Earth.  But this will be and interesting story nonetheless.

Until next season, gang....Up, up, and away!
