SUPERGIRL 6.6

RECAP - SUPERGIRL  6.6:  "Prom Again!"

The duo of Dreamer and Brainiac have NOT made this mission easy for themselves.  All they had to do was time their arrival with a meteor shower coming to Earth, where the young Kara Zor-El would save the school from a meteor crashing to it, only to discover that traces of Kryptonite were in it.  It's because of THIS incident they are here:  to obtain Kara's DNA, so that they can travel back home, and use it in a device Lena Luthor created to help track and find Kara in the splintered Phantom Zone.  Pretty simple job....right?  Weeelllll....leave it to the lovebirds to find a way to fumble the ball, and create ALL sorts of problems for themselves.  Especially now with two aliens looking to capture a Kryptonian, and to make things even worse---you have an extremely ambitious CJ Grant (that's CAT Grant to all of us), looking to get a huge story, so she can show the Daily Planet's Perry White she's more than just a gossip columnist.  So...how did this whole scenario play out?  Let's go over the details, and see what happened....

Nia and Brainy are in trouble with Nexum, as they have been captured by the duo.  Thankfully, they know a gal with super hearing, and Kara is off to their rescue.  But...while Kara is off to save her newfound friends, CJ Grant is close by, capturing all the action.  With the threat seemingly resolved, as Brainy had sent the captured duo's ship towards Uruguay, where the DEO will pick the up, according to history.  With that distraction out of the way, Nia and Brainy look to prepare for departure, having gotten their ship repaired.  They only need to now wait for the meteors to head to Earth to let history run its course, and have Kara do her thing by stopping the meteor, and thus getting her DNA.  Nia, however, has yet another dream about the pink cougar and the cage.  She can hear the cougar, but it's no longer in the cage.  She puts it aside as she and Brainy prepare for the meteor strike.

Kara and Alex have a heart to heart sister talk, and Alex is proud of Kara and how she handles herself.  She thought they all had to worry about Kara, but Kara's proven that she's more than capable to handling herself.  They see the meteor shower, and Alex says she's going to snap some shots, and wants Kara to go have fun at prom.  Meanwhile, Brainy and Nia are dressed up formally for the prom to fit in, and be close by when Kara stops the meteor.  She confesses to Brainy that she still has trouble deciphering her dreams, and wishes her mom was there to help her, because she feels she can't properly use her powers.

CJ, however, is about to make things complicated, as she finds Nexum's ship, and releases the duo from their prison, thus allowing them to capture HER, and they're off to claim Kara once again.  They end up flying back to Midvale High, where they know Kara is at.  Kara and Kenny are having a private moment, where Kenny says how happy and alive he feels working and being with Kara.  But before Kara can explain that she's leaving Midvale to go to National City University, the meteor is close to Earth, and Kara senses it, and she takes off....she does her thing, and stops the meteor by blasting it, but because it contains Kryptonite, she's effected by the meteor.  She's bleeding, and Alex and Kenny are there for her.  Nia and Brainy arrive, and they do get their sample.  They check on Kara.  She's hurt, but okay.  But then, Nexum arrive and they demand Kara turn herself over to them, or they'll destroy everyone in the area.  Nia and Brainy lock Kara and Alex in to keep her safe, while they deal with Nexum.

The cosmic duo continue to threaten the town if Kara doesn't give herself up, so Kenny, brave soul that he is, says HE is the Kryptonian, and gets captured by Nexum.  There, he's thrown into a cell with CJ, and he immediately feels useless and foolish for what he did.  But CJ won't allow him to get down on himself.  Meanwhile, Kara is beating herself up for just wanting things to be normal, but realizes that they can't be anymore. Kara wants to stop Nexum, but Alex says she needs to heal.  Kara just needs to get solar energy, so Alex picks the lock, and Kara heals...and off she goes.

While tracking Nexum, Nia once again has a dream about the pink cougar and the empty cage.  She notices initials on the front of the cage:  P.W.  The cougar comes at her in the dream, but she ends up capturing the cougar, and was able to bring it from her dream into reality, and sent it after Nexum.  It seems that Dreamer has found a new way to utilize her powers.  Her and Brainy go to free Kenny and CJ, but it goes awry and they're captured.  Kara comes to the rescue, and manages to punch out the two zookeepers.  But in that process, Kara releases some alien sharks.  Things go from bad to worse when the police arrive, and everyone is under arrest.  Nia and Brainy, desperate to set things right, realize they must go back in time, and set things right.  Kara overhears, and stows away on their ship, as they time travel back a few hours.  It's here that Nia realizes exactly what the pink cougar represents....Cat.  They know they have to derail Cat from being able to report this story, and changing everything.  So, as Kara watches on, Nia destroys the drone that Cat had borrowed, and Nia talks to her.  CJ says that she's tired of being caged by her boss to writing silly gossip columns.  Nia also discovers that the cage with the "PW" on it represents Planet Editor Perry White.  Nia tells her that she'll be a media mogul...and it gives CJ much to ponder.  A little later, they manage to see what they put right, as they watch CJ in a bar telling Perry White she quit, and when she leaves, Nia and Brainy see that she scribbled the name "Catco" on a napkin with a cougar in pink pen.

Things fall into place, and they get events to play out as they should in regards to Kara, and manage to get a DNA sample from her.  Nia now knows she has a new way to use her powers, and Brainy has now gotten a better idea on how to control his emotions.  They head for home, hoping they have what they need to save Kara from the Phantom Zone.   Meanwhile, we do have Kara and Kenny talk...and both realize that as much fun as they've had doing the hero thing---they both know that their lives are going different directions.

This was a fairly entertaining episode that was the directorial debut of Chyler Leigh.  We got to see more of young Alex and Kara, and a bit more of their bonding as sisters.  And we got some comical moments from Kenny, as well as Cat.  It was awesome to see Nia be able to use her powers in a new way, and it will prove to be helpful when they go to rescue Kara.  We also (finally!), got Nia and Brainy to be closer, and mend their relationship.  Nexum were goofy alien villains, and served the purpose of giving yet another obstacle in Nia and Brainy's path towards achieving their goal.  As for Cat---we now got the skinny on the how and why she quit the Planet, and started Catco.  Outside of making sure Nia and Brainy accomplished their mission....there wasn't much to move storyline forward, and this was just Part 2 of last week's episode.  Now we can really move the story forward, and wonder if the team will get Kara back as we hit the mid-season finale.  Then, we will pave the way for the Man of Steel to return and finish his run.  But once Kara returns, we have no idea what direction the show is going to finish up.  But we HOPE to at least get Kara back next week.
